Why Jacksonville Homeowners Act
Jacksonville's Power Outage Reality
Hurricane Helene never made landfall on the First Coast, and it still took the power from about one JEA customer in four. On the morning of September 27, 2024, JEA had 131,618 of its 497,615 Duval County customers out. Jacksonville homeowners do not have to be in a storm's path to lose power. They only have to be on the grid when it passes. At Hurricane Irma's peak in September 2017, 257,261 accounts across Duval County were without power, 57% of the county.
JEA serves the consolidated city. Across the region the outages land on different utilities: during Helene, Clay Electric Cooperative had 32,726 Clay County members out and Florida Public Utilities 12,728 of its 17,545 Nassau County customers. Two years earlier, Hurricane Ian left 20,962 JEA customers in the dark, and Hurricane Nicole another 20,496 six weeks later.
The beaches have their own system. In August 2024, Hurricane Debby cut power to 9,084 of the 19,017 Beaches Energy Services customers in Duval County, close to half. A standby generator starts on its own within seconds of an outage and runs until utility power returns, whether that takes hours or days.
The Florida PSC's peak count for Duval County in September 2017, all utilities: 57% of accounts.
Clay Electric had 32,726 Clay County members out, and Florida Public Utilities 73% of its Nassau County customers.
JEA had 20,962 Duval County customers out in Ian, then 20,496 in Nicole six weeks later.
Hurricane Debby left 9,084 of 19,017 Beaches Energy Services customers in Duval County without power in August 2024.
Why Jacksonville Chooses GenerX
What Makes Us Different
Jacksonville homeowners have more than one generator company to call. Here is what sets GenerX apart, and why it counts when a storm crosses Northeast Florida and the whole street is calling for help at once.
No Subcontractors
GenerX does not hand your installation to outside electricians or gas fitters. Every licensed electrician, gas specialist and installer on a Jacksonville job is a GenerX employee, so one company answers for the work from the pad to the transfer switch, and no outside markup lands on your bill.
Unique in the Jacksonville Market
12-Year Warranty
Every Generac air-cooled installation in Jacksonville carries the 12-year Power Plus Warranty, exclusive to Canter Power Systems brands. We stand behind it with more than 25,000 Florida installs, parts warehoused across the state and the largest service technician fleet in Florida.
12 Years of Full Coverage
Florida's Largest Dealer
GenerX is Florida's largest authorized Generac and Kohler dealer, with more than 25,000 installs across the state since 2005. That is a lot of Florida yards, utility hookups and permit offices, from Duval to Clay and Nassau counties.
25,000+ FL & TN Installs
Storm-Ready Service Fleet
When a hurricane takes down JEA, Clay Electric and Florida Public Utilities lines in the same night, single-location dealers fall behind. GenerX keeps parts on warehouse shelves around the state and moves crews in from its other Florida locations when one region is hit.
Warehouses in FL & TN
Quality + Value
Because we employ our own labor, there is no subcontractor margin built into a Jacksonville quote. Our buying volume as Florida's largest dealer brings better equipment pricing than a small shop can get. You get a better installation at a fair price, without trading one for the other.
No Hidden Third-Party Costs
Generator Specialists
Generators are all GenerX does. Our technicians, warehouses and processes exist for installing and servicing standby generators, not for the side jobs of a general electrical shop, and that focus shows in the work.

Jacksonville Pricing Guide
What Does a Generator Cost in Jacksonville?
Whole home generator installation in Jacksonville typically runs $7,000 to $25,000+. Size, fuel source, and what your lot looks like all move the number.
Essential circuits (lights, fridge, AC unit)
Most homes under 3,000 sq ft (full house)
Larger homes, multiple HVAC zones
Large homes, home offices, medical equipment
Pricing includes equipment, in house installation, transfer switch, permit fees, and our 12-year warranty on every Generac air-cooled unit we install. Where a Peoples Gas main reaches your street, a natural gas hookup typically costs less to set up than a propane tank install. These prices assume an existing fuel source on the property.
Because GenerX employs all labor directly, we eliminate the outside contractor markup that drives installation costs higher at other companies. Our buying volume as Florida’s largest dealer means better equipment pricing than smaller dealers can match. The result is a higher quality installation at a better price.

Exclusive Power Plus Warranty 12 Years of Full Coverage
Every Generac air-cooled installation we do includes the full 12-year Power Plus Warranty at no extra cost, covering parts and labor for 12 full years beyond the standard manufacturer warranty.
Choosing Your Generator
Generac vs. Kohler: Which Is Right for Your Jacksonville Home?
GenerX is authorized to install and service both Generac and Kohler whole home generators in Jacksonville. Here is how the two compare for Northeast Florida homes.

Generac
The most widely installed home standby brand in the United States. Generac covers the widest residential range, from 11 kW air cooled units to 24 kW and beyond, with Mobile Link for remote monitoring. Parts are easy to get and Florida has the widest Generac dealer network, which is why most Jacksonville homeowners land on Generac.

Kohler
Known for quieter running and premium build quality, with engineering carried over from Kohler's commercial line. Homeowners who care most about sound, including those in neighborhoods with strict association rules, often lean toward Kohler.
At your free GenerX estimate we go through both brands against your home, your lot and any association rules. We sell and service both, so we gain nothing by steering you to one. The job is to find the right fit.
Jacksonville Homeowner Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions Jacksonville homeowners ask us most often before scheduling an estimate.
How much does whole home generator installation cost in Jacksonville, FL?
Whole home generator installation in Jacksonville typically runs $7,000 to $25,000+, depending on generator size (11kW to 36kW+), fuel and the site. Peoples Gas lists Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Baldwin and unincorporated Duval County in its natural gas service area; homes off its mains run on propane. GenerX gives free in-home estimates with an exact price, and because our electricians and gas fitters are our own employees, no subcontractor markup is built into it.
Do I need a permit to install a generator in Jacksonville?
Yes. A standby generator needs permits for the electrical work, the gas line and the pad, and the office that issues them depends on your address:
- City of Jacksonville: Building Inspection Division, which takes every permit type online through JaxEPICS
- Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Baldwin: these kept their own city governments when Jacksonville consolidated with Duval County, so GenerX confirms the permit office for your address at the estimate
- Unincorporated Clay County, including Fleming Island and Middleburg: Clay County Building Division
- Orange Park, Green Cove Springs and Fernandina Beach: each city’s own building department
GenerX pulls the permits with a licensed electrician and schedules the inspections.
Does GenerX have an office in Jacksonville?
No. GenerX serves Jacksonville from our Flagler facility at 203 W Booe St in Bunnell, our nearest location, about 67 miles by road from the center of the city. Estimates, installations, maintenance and 24/7 repair calls are all dispatched from there, and after a large outage GenerX brings in technicians from its other Florida locations.
How long does generator installation take in Jacksonville?
From order placement, most Jacksonville installations are finished within 30 to 90 days. That covers permit approval from the City of Jacksonville or your city or county building office, equipment delivery, site preparation and the installation itself. An association that reviews exterior equipment can add time before work starts.
Which utility serves my Jacksonville area home?
It depends on where you live. In the Florida PSC’s storm outage tables, JEA serves Duval County and the Town of Orange Park, Beaches Energy Services serves Jacksonville Beach, Clay Electric Cooperative serves most of Clay County, the City of Green Cove Springs runs its own electric system, and Florida Public Utilities serves Fernandina Beach, with FPL and Okefenoke REC in the rest of Nassau County. A GenerX transfer switch works with any of them, and the name on your bill settles it.
What size generator do I need for my Jacksonville home?
For most Jacksonville homes, a 22kW generator runs the whole house, air conditioning included, which is the load that matters in a Florida summer outage. Smaller 11 to 14kW units cover essential circuits. Larger 26 to 36kW units suit homes over 4,000 sq ft, houses with two or more air conditioning systems, and homes with pools, workshops or medical equipment. GenerX does a free load assessment to size the unit for your house.
Does GenerX use subcontractors for Jacksonville generator installations?
No. GenerX employs its own licensed electricians, gas line specialists and installation technicians, and no part of a Jacksonville installation is subcontracted. That means one company answers for the work, quality is checked to one standard, and there is no third-party labor markup in your price.
What warranty does GenerX offer on Jacksonville generator installations?
Generac air-cooled installations carry the 12-year Power Plus Warranty, exclusive to Canter Power Systems brands, covering parts and labor at no extra cost. It is backed by more than 25,000 GenerX installations across Florida, a statewide network of parts warehouses and the largest service technician fleet in the state.
Should my Jacksonville generator run on natural gas or propane?
GenerX installs both. Where a Peoples Gas main reaches your street, in Jacksonville or in Orange Park, Fleming Island, Middleburg and Green Cove Springs across the county line, the generator connects to the utility line and runs as long as the gas flows. In Nassau County, Florida Public Utilities and Peoples Gas both list Fernandina Beach in their gas tariffs. Homes off the mains use a propane tank on the property. At the free estimate we confirm what reaches your address and walk through both setups.
